Bikes, art and Brad! Sunday, September 13, join a community bike ride from Carbondale to Aspen to see Brad Reed Nelson’s show at Harvey Preston Gallery. Meet at Aloha Mtn Cyclery in Carbondale at 9 a.m., then ride upvalley together for art, beer, espresso, and hotdogs. Everyone’s welcome. It’s called “Let’s Go See It.” Get on your bike—and let’s go see some art.

The exhibition includes new works from Nelson’s Basket Case collection, exploring the relationship between volume and density. Complex, open structures give the work a strong physical presence while retaining a sense of lightness. Upholstery by Claire Wright.

Brad Reed Nelson is a visual artist based in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley. In 2001, he founded Board by Design (BBD), a manufacturing company that collaborates with individuals, businesses, designers, and architects to create spaces and objects.

Nelson’s work explores the relationship between form, outline, and color. Objects are reduced to their essential structure, then reassembled through systems of line and color. Drawing from both the natural and material worlds, his work engages with ideas of environment, sustainability, human connection, familiarity, beauty, and humor, while holding form and function in equal balance. By turning his attention to consumer products and their origins, Nelson also questions what we consider disposable.
