The Heffron collection
July 14 – August 10, 2026
About The Exhibition
As a potter, workshop organizer, and lifelong supporter of the ceramic arts, Valerie Heffron assembled a collection that reflects both a maker's understanding of clay and a collector's appreciation for innovation, craftsmanship, and form.
Harvey Preston Gallery is pleased to present legacy works from the collection of Valerie Heffron. The Collection consists of ceramic works, posters, and ephemera by well-respected national and international artists spanning from the early 1960s to the 1990s.
The opening reception will be held on Tuesday, July 14th, from 5-8 pm. There will be light refreshments and appetizers. The exhibition will be on view at the gallery from July 14th to August 10th, 2026.
Valerie Heffron Eicher (1937 – 2024) was born in London in 1937 to Noreen and Charles Meadmore and spent her childhood in India. Following World War II, she attended boarding school in Dorset, England, and pursued occupational therapy studies in Oxford. She then set sail to North America, where she worked as an occupational therapist. After settling in Boulder, she became an accomplished potter and contributed to the Boulder Potter’s Guild, helping host workshops with renowned potters.
The Collection reflects the invisible relationship between the corporal body and ceramics as a physical material while at the same time appreciating the individuality of each artist’s voice within a creative art form. The touch of the clay, the ability to manipulate the clay, to make the abstract concrete, to give life to a dream. These are some of the sensibilities consistent within the Collection.
The Collection consists of works by Toshiko Takaezu, Betty Woodman, Peter Voulkos, Paul Soldner, Bernard and David Leach, Michael Cardew, Lucy Rie and others.
