artist statement

My paper clay sculptures are an exploration of natures processes and secrets resul,ng from a wonderful life of exploring the mountains, rivers and canyons in the west.

Fascinated by the forces of erosion and deposition, I’m particularly interested in how vulnerability, protection and duplicity have evolved in nature and how they are imprinted on us as we tread the currents and eddies of life. Paramount, is waters impact on our journey here on our planet—as a necessary life source, constantly changing our landscape, and alternately—resulting in terrifying, life changing events. As I explore the canyon walls I can’t help but “FEEL” the power of past horrific water events, and of eons of times passed.

Significant events occur in nature and in our lives, past events are exposed, new paths emerge, and events out of our control can permanently alter a river’s course, or respectively impact us for generations.
